About

Jessica Schladt

I am a licensed mental health counselor and have been practicing as a therapist since 2012. Since 2017, I have been conducting therapy through telehealth, providing accessible and flexible care to clients. My approach is both direct and caring, creating a supportive space for growth.

As a military child and later a military spouse, I bring a unique perspective to my work, understanding the challenges of transition, resilience, and adaptation. I utilize this background to support my clients in navigating their own life experiences with empathy and insight.

Also, my cat's name is Elizabeth.

Therapeutic Approach

I use a select group of counseling theories to maintain a focused and effective approach in my practice. These theories help me understand my clients' issues more thoroughly and guide my interventions. By specializing in a few methods, I can enhance my expertise and offer tailored, consistent, and professional care.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

This approach helps people recognize and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors contributing to their struggles. By learning new ways to think and respond, individuals can develop healthier coping skills and improve their emotional well-being.

Feminist Therapy

This approach focuses on understanding how social and cultural influences—such as gender roles, power dynamics, and oppression—affect a person’s mental health. It empowers individuals to challenge harmful societal expectations and build a strong sense of self.

Person-Centered Therapy

This approach emphasizes a warm, supportive relationship between the counselor and client, where the client feels heard, valued, and accepted. The belief is that people naturally have the ability to grow and heal when given a safe, nonjudgmental space.

Expressive Arts Therapy

This approach uses creative activities like painting, music, writing, or movement to help people explore their emotions and experiences. It allows for self-expression beyond words, making it especially helpful for those who struggle to talk about their feelings.

Motivational Interviewing

This is a collaborative approach that helps people find their own motivation to make positive changes in their lives. Instead of giving direct advice, the therapist supports and guides the person in exploring their goals and overcoming obstacles.

Strength-Based Therapy

This approach focuses on a person’s strengths, abilities, and past successes rather than just their struggles. By building on what already works well, individuals gain confidence and resilience to overcome challenges.
